Illustrating high flying experiences at London Stansted Airport

Working with M&C Saatchi, AntiGravity was tasked with crafting unique creative concepts for three areas of the airport that needed to be revamped. The aim was to encourage these spaces to be utilised more and engaged with in a positive way.

With 27 million people going through the airport each year, we knew we had a unique opportunity to create something with a truly lasting impact.

We came up with a variety of different approaches based on our in-depth market and customer research and the selected concept features bespoke illustration that teases the destinations of which customers may be visiting, along with interesting facts that they’d probably never heard before.

On the walls outside the toilet facilities, we used a play on the wording “have you been?”, referring not only to if they have been to that destination or not, but also to the well known saying about going to the toilet before catching a flight.

Once we settled on the style of illustration to move forward with, AntiGravity sketched and crafted an illustrated mural with intricate details designed to reveal more to the viewer each time they look at it. To make this even more interactive, we created QR code signs for the customer to scan, taking them to a page on LSA’s website where they could find out more information and details about the facts featured on the mural.
